Born in Cardiff in 1927, Peter spent his early adult life in the Merchant Marines where he first became fascinated with the power of the sea.

After the war he took up painting as a pastime. He had night school lessons but was discouraged by comments that he would be unlikely to succeed as a painter. However he persisted and taught himself by trial and error.

By 1971 he was receiving regular enquiries for his work and demand enabled him to become a full time artist. He has been popular ever since.

Peter Cosslett is probably the finest present day realist painter of British seascapes, with his work regularly being published. He also occasionally paints snow scenes, which are now much sought after.
